My name is Daniel Hill. God has given a burden for His church here in North America. We as a church are so dead to the needs of the mission field. Our mission offerings are decreasing, and a major part of what we hear from the mission field is that the work is almost done, just keep sending in your offerings and pretty soon the work will be finished. But we have no idea of the incredible need that there is in the mission field. There are millions of people that are dying without Jesus, without the truth. 2 billion people are unreached! They have no opportunity! And many of those would accept him if someone would just tell them about Him!

I have determined to do something about it. I believe that God has given me a talent in media for a purpose. He wants me to use it as a tool to share Him, and to re-engage others to share Him also. Right now I’m working with MissionTV, a TV channel devoted to re-engaging North America with missions by showing the need as well as the work being done. Right now we are streaming video online, however we are investigating other avenues of broadcast such as RokuTV and AppleTV, and of course when God opens the doors we are ready to go on satellite across North America.

I’m praying that God will lay the burden of the unreached on other young people who are already trained in different aspects of media. MissionTV needs trained media people that are willing to dedicate their God given talents to this cause. I sometimes wish that I could clone myself two or three or even four times! There is so much work that needs to be done, I sometimes feel swamped! For the next several years it looks like I’ll be going to countries where the need is great, documenting the needs there and sharing it with the world. It also looks like God is going to use me to help set up studios in the places where I go as well. I personally would rather be shooting video and editing than setting up studios and media teams, but in setting up studios and training I realize that I’ll be multiplying whatever talent and little skill I have in the field of media. I think this is worth the extra work…

Why I’m a volunteer…

Not everyone thinks that working for God for free as a volunteer is a good idea. Some will say the workman is worthy of his hire. Some will say that we should not follow George Muller’s example because of a comment that Sister White makes about him. I have thought about this, and wondered where exactly God would have me. Hopefully this will show you a little of where I stand on this.

The first thing I will say is that I’ve found that volunteer work is faith building, and if you don’t exercise faith and perseverance in prayer, then sometimes you miss God’s blessings. However for me it has been a blessing. I chose to be a volunteer for several reasons: One is because it is faith building. The disciples didn’t get paid for their missionary work, and neither did Jesus, and I’d rather follow in their tracks than follow the worlds motto. True Jesus did work in the carpenter shop, and Paul did make tents, but the time that they spent doing this was not a major period in their ministry. Some will quote Sister White where she says that God doesn’t give us the same work that he gave George Muller. For me though in that quote I see her making a comparison between the type of work that he did versus the work that God has given us, instead of philosophy in finance.

So I am a volunteer and volunteer full time with MissionTV and Gospel Ministries International. I will work an odd job here and there once in a while in my time off, but I keep that quite limited because of time and also because I notice that if I work a lot my focus starts to change. One thing that I have struggled with is whether to ask people for money. I saw some people like David Gates would ask God for everything and not talk to other people about his needs. Then there were other people who tried this, but it didn’t work for them because God gave them tools to use to make people aware of the need. So I pondered this difference, and what my roll was: whether I should ask people for money or not. Presently I’ve come to the conclusion that for projects that I’m working on like the studio in Kenya and my traveling expenses I will be specific and tell people what my needs are because in a sense it’s for other people. But for myself when I’m working here at GMI, I try not to discuss my personal needs with anyone as I want to leave this an area for my faith to grow. And God is faithful… sometimes I don’t have enough faith, and am not persistent enough in asking Him, but He is faithful.
